Did You Know... ?

Chet Hanulak was one of the greatest athletes to ever graduate from H.H.S. He went to the University of Maryland where he starred in both football and baseball and was inducted into the University of Maryland’s athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.


He was on the University of Maryland’s team on New Years Day of 1952 in one of the greatest Sugar Bowl game upsets in college football history. Maryland upset Tennessee 28-13. He is quoted in an article commenting on his coach Jim Tatum about the game. “Nobody expected us to get that far”, recalls former Terrapin Chet Hanulak, a 165Ib halfback, “but Tatum was a coach who could work wonders.” He was nicknamed “Chet the Jet” for his remarkable speed on the field.

       
After college, Chet Hanulak went to the Cleveland Browns football team in 1954. He played for the Browns in 1954 and 1957. His professional stats are listed below.
